Abadia de Acon Roble. Ribero Del Duero. Spain 2004

“Abadía de Acón is located at the heart of the D.O. Ribera del Duero, in Castrillo de la Vega, Burgos. It is a small, winery, run by the Carrasco family. The original cellar, hewn out of rocky clay, is one of the deepest and largest in Castrillo de la Vega and has a centuries old tradition of winemaking. Annual production is only 100,000 bottles/year from 36 ha. This represents 3,500 / 4,000 kgs per ha – half the allowable yield in Ribera del Duero. As a result wines are intense and full of flavour. Altough not certified as Organic, no herbicides or chemical treatments are used in the vineyards. In addition all movement is done strictly by gravity with no pumping. This ensures the grapes suffer minimal damage producing the best quality juice in the tanks. The wines are now recognised in USA and in Europe, with high ratings in The Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator, The International Wine Review and the International Wine Challenge, as well as Gold at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, (from 88 to 93 points). Price inclusive of VAT.

       Tasting Notes
Stephan Tanzer / June 2008 88 points Deep ruby. Peppery red fruits on the nose, with a subtle espresso quality adding depth. Sharply focused raspberry and bitter cherry flavors are firmed by dusty tannins, which gain strength with air. Finishes with notes of bitter cherry skin and cracked pepper and good persistence. This became sweeter in the open bottle.
